Fawry secures EGP 550 million to expand MSME lending

Fawry's microfinance and SME lending arm has secured EGP 550 million in financing from the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (MSMEDA) to expand lending to small businesses across Egypt, according to an EGX disclosure. The facility includes EGP 300 million for microenterprises and EGP 250 million for SMEs under a Finance Ministry initiative aimed at bringing more informal businesses into the formal economy.
Scaling digital lending
CEO Ashraf Sabry said the funding will help Fawry expand its digital lending platform using data-driven credit assessments to provide faster financing for working capital and business expansion. The company also sees the program as a way to deepen financial inclusion and broaden access to formal financing.
Building on recent funding
The agreement follows EUR 4.4 million in financing from the EBRD announced in April to support lending to youth-led MSMEs, further strengthening Fawry's push into Egypt's small business finance market.
